Humbled Females: new forum reply to Emasculation of husbands

New reply from Kahuna

Like @daisy, have also seen a lot of this. When it has not seemed too inappropriate, as I pass by females who were commenting socially, to the detriment of their husbands/BFs. I commonly mention that any woman who speaks of her Man is such a way is lucky to have any Man at all.

Emasculation of husbands

I came across this recently (on twitter again) and thought it quite useful. It's from a religious source but the (often unconscious) ways we can emasculate our Men is universal, I fear.

E – emotional manipulation

M – mothering

A – aggression

S – smothering

C – criticism

U – undermining

L – lust and flirting

A – avoiding issues

T – taunting

E – envy of other relationships

One excerpt from the mothering section:

Okay guys, I can be such a mom – in every sense of the word. But gosh, it’s damaging, and especially to my marriage. We have gotten to a place where I have recognized that this is a struggle for me and am actively choosing my words & actions more wisely, but that hasn’t always been the case. And I believe in many marriages, the wife acts like her husband’s mother, but because she thinks that it’s what’s ‘best’, she avoids the issue and drains her husband of all independence and joy.

If you are regularly telling your husband what’s best for him or making your own convictions his convictions, it’s likely that you’re playing the role of ‘mom’ rather than the role of ‘wife’. This tends to make a man feel smaller and smaller in his role as your protector.
